Spinal deformity is a disease that correlates with great disability. Spinal deformity in adults can occur as the result degrative changes, trauma or untreated adolescent deformities. An additional cause of spinal deformity in adults is iatrogenic. This means it can be the result of a prior surgery, or be the unintended result of prior treatment. No surgeon can guarantee zero complications, but spinal fusion complications can be minimized with the appropriate planning.
Myself and my colleagues at Polaris Spine and Neurosurgery Center are committed to staying on top of the latest developments in spinal surgery and offering our patients the best care. Even small fusions, if not planned appropriately can result in poor outcomes.
If you have been told you need a spinal fusion, I welcome the opportunity to offer my opinion.
